South Asian Institute of Crime and Justice Studies
SAICJS works to bring together academics, activists, practitioners, researchers and students working on Crime and Justice issues in South Asia. While research on crime and justice is on the rise, a dearth of this work is anchored in the South Asian context. At SAICJS we aim to build context-specific research, enable individuals and organizations to develop research skills/training, and support the next generation of scholars in pursuing crime and justice studies. By facilitating South Asian-specific research, we aim to create dialogues across working groups and settings and enable evidence-based problem solving.
Research
Research on crime and justice is growing globally. However, most of this work is anchored in the Global North. At SAICJS, we conduct and facilitate research anchored in the South Asian context. Context-specific research can offer effective solutions to crime and justice challenges, while contributing to the growing knowledge base of comparative crime and justice research.
Workshops
At SAICJS we connect organizations across borders to plan, conduct and implement trainings, with a focus on crime and justice issues. Contextualizing programs and trainings, learning about best practices from different contexts, and connecting personnel from different contexts can enable the utilization of research to provide problem solving insights.
Training
We conduct social science research methodology trainings to enable students and organizations to conceptualize and build context-specific research skills and projects. These trainings enable participants to understand how to conceptualize a study, understand the permission processes and ethical considerations, work with local stakeholders, construct rigorous data collection tools and practices, and utilize data for effective research.
